About Claire

Claire is a Microtarget Fabricator in the Target Facrication Group at the Central Laser Facility (CLF). Her role involves manufacturing highly specialised microtargets, for use in high-power laser experiments. Working closely with scientists and engineers, she produces bespoke targets, designed to meet the unique requirements of each experiment. No target is the same. This means she has to use practical and creative skills in her every day work. Her role combines precision engineering, technical expertise, problem-solving and craftsmanship, to support cutting-edge scientific research. Claire enjoyed both art and science at school and believes you don’t have to fit a stereotype to work in this field.
