About Becca
Becca works in a very unique place - an underground laboratory located over a kilometre beneath the surface! She is responsible for special laboratories called cleanrooms, where world-leading scientific experiments take place. To keep the sensitive experiments working properly, she needs to ensure there are no containments, like dusts or tiny particles, keeping the cleanrooms to a high standard. She first joined Boulby Underground Laboratory as a part-time cleaner but quickly became curious about technical side of the work. Through training and experience, she progressed into her current role. The job is hands-on, fast-paced, and physically demanding - especially in the underground environment, which can reach over 30°C, and requires you to be resilient and hard-working. Most of all, she values being part of a team that's constantly improving processes and solving problems together.
