Join us for a special Summer Stargazing event to witness the partial solar eclipse in the UK.

At the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, in Oxfordshire, we will experience a solar eclipse with over 90% totality. However, we are incredibly excited to be working with the British Antarctic Survey to live stream from the Royal Research Ship (RRS) Sir David Attenborough in the path of totality. Join us to experience both the UK’s partial eclipse and Greenland’s total eclipse!

In addition to live streaming from the Sir David Attenborough, we will also be joined by RAL Space’s Professor Richard Harrison for a talk on Solar Secrets, Science and Shadows to learn about the science behind solar eclipses.

After the talk, we will head outside to watch the eclipse safely ourselves either through a solar telescope, or by using solar viewing glasses (a pair of these will be provided to all attendees). There will be a range of exciting hands on sun and space activities and demonstrations for all the family to enjoy in our Visitor Centre.

Places are limited and we expect demand to be high, so tickets will be allocated by lottery (see link below). The lottery will open by 17:00 on Monday 20 July and close at 23:59 on Sunday 26 July.
